For about two-thirds of our national population, waste is collected at sewage plants and landfills where it is processed and biogas is released. Large facilities have the economies of scale to treat biogas so that it can be used with traditional power producing engines and turbines, or placed back into the natural gas pipeline.

Most small facilities – over 80% of those in the US and more worldwide – cannot effectively use their biogas, so they are forced to destroy it.
